Beat the Bookies (Summer) - Week 1

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/05/2013

IT'S time to turn our attention away from football and look at betting opportunities on other sports. Our principle remains the same: back the outsider and always look for the upset. It's been a successful strategy in football and last summer we made a profit betting on the less familiar summer sports.

Home > 2012-2013 Season > Beat the Summer Bookies > Week 1

Cricket

  • England v New Zealand - away win (13.0, Paddy Power). England are often overpriced to win test matches, and New Zealand showed in the last test that they are capable of beating England. Had they not fallen away in the fourth innings it could have been a different story.

    Rugby League

  • Catalan Dragons v London Broncos - London (7.4, Betdaq). It's Magic Weekend in Rugby League, a special occasion when everyone plays away from home on a neutral ground. Catalan Dragons are listed as the "home" side but it's very much an away game for them and they have always seemed to struggle when they travel. In their last three away matches they have lost at Wakefield and Hull, and managed a win over an out of sorts St Helens.

  • Bradford v Huddersfield - Bradford (3.6, Bet770). Huddersfield have done well recently but they have conceded a lot of points, so they are giving opposition teams a chance. Bradford had an impressive win last week at Salford where they conceded just 7 points. If they defend like that again they should win.

Next week we might look at other sports including baseball, tennis and even some football - MLS perhaps.
