QPR v Athletico Madrid - Biggest Debt?

THIS is just a rant about how shocking I found these stats. Yes these teams are a little above the conference but yeah these stats are shocking.

QPR's losses last year are to be believed to be a huge £80m. They have racked up big debts and massive annual losses largely through signing dozens of players on huge contracts in recent seasons, including Chris Samba, Park Ji-Sung, Julio Cesar, Jermaine Jenas, Loic Remy and others, most of whom remain on the club’s books, draining their resources with contracts worth up to £100,000 a week.

Here’s a pretty table to put these stats into an easy-to-digest shocker-horror:

  • QPRs Starting XI = £10.5m
  • Athletico Madrid XI = £29.83m
  • QPR wages = £72m
  • Athletico wages = £54m

I find this astounding, there have been a few alterations in the sense that various players have been loaned out, for example Loic Remy, Julio Cesar and Adel Taraabt. This still does not affect the stats shown on the table.

      Here comes a rant:-

Taraabt - Quality player, not very reliable. He can play superb football one game and then wanders aimlessly around the centre circle for another. However I believe QPR would have sustained first place of they had not loaned him out, as he is rather enjoying it at Milan.

Cesar - underrated. He is by far one of the best of the South American goalkeepers. It surprises me how a lot of South American goalkeepers reside in the London teams that dominate the bottom half of the premiership and the top half of the championship - a prime example is Julian Speroni, who has had a top-notch season at Crystal Palace.

Morrison - (on loan from West Ham). Had a great first-half of the season at West Ham, but has been at QPR since January, has seemed to have disappeared. Has this damaged his transfer rating, why did Allardyce let him out on loan? Did I miss something?

They do have expensive players who, understandably, have big wages. But when they are loaned out, why are the wages still £24m more than a Europe quality, dark horse team like Athletico.

QPR are on track to get some where in the region of £60m for promotion but are also likely to lose many key players.
