Town Suffer Defeat to Macclesfield

GRIMSBY suffered a defeat at Macclesfield in the Easter Monday fixtures, which saw all three of the top sides drop points. The Mariners conceded an early goal, fought back to get on level terms thanks to a Nolan strike, then fell behind again after a Nsiala own goal

Gregor Robertson and Omar Bogle came into the starting XI as straight swaps for Evan Horwood and Pat Hoban, who dropped to the bench.

Chances were at a premium in the first half until Macclesfield's Danny Rowe ran unchallenged into the danger area and chipped a ball over McKeown which Jack Sampson smashed home.

Town improved at the start of the second half and looked to have turned the game around when Bogle set up Nolan, who ran into the box, beat a man, and slotted the ball home.

But the expected comeback did not materialise. Town gave the ball away and a long ball over the top picked out Styche, whose shot was unfortunately turned into his own net by Grimsby's Toto Nsiala.

The Mariners exerted some late pressure but were unable to salvage anything from the game,
