Amond Joins Hartlepool

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/06/2016

STAR striker Padraig Amond has rejected the one year deal offered to him at Blundell Park and joined League Two rivals Hartlepool. The 35-goal striker was top of most fans' "must retain" list but it appears it wasn't a priority of the club to re-sign Amond.

Amond joins Toto Nsiala at Hartlepool, who finished just above the relegation places last season. In the meantime Grimsby need to make at least a dozen new signings in the next two weeks, as the Town sign which won promotion has been all but decimated.

Although Amond has played at League Two level before, with Accrington and Morecambe, and failed to achieve success, his magnificent season last year for Grimsby suggested that he had found the right club at last.

In reality there are many footballers better than 28-year-old Amond out there, whether manager Paul Hurst can attract any of them to Blundell Park is another matter.

The Fishy would like to thank Amond for his huge rule in ensuring Town returned to the Football League and wish his a successful remainder of his career.
