Nielsen Reaction

After Saturday's 2-0 victory at the expense of Norwich City, Grimsby's on-loan striker David Nielsen has given his reaction to the performance whilst also speaking of the "complicated" position in which he currently finds himself.

Speaking to MarinersNet, Nielsen stressed the importance of Saturday's win as he said: "This was a massive win for us. I don't care how we played, the win was important.

"The system that Lennie has been playing has worked excellently - everybody's been playing well. When I score, I get a lot of credit, but the team performance was excellent - everyone worked their nuts off."

Grimsby took the lead through a Craig Fleming own-goal, described by Nielsen as "unbelievable":

"I couldn't believe he just struck it in the goal! Sometimes you have to be lucky and fortunately, this was our lucky day.

Nielsen sealed the win with a last-minute goal, his fifth since joining the Mariners on a three-month loan deal:

"Menno [Willems] put the ball through - I loosed off the remaining energy getting into the defender's body, knocking him down and it was a good finish - exactly where I wanted to put the ball."

Nielsen, who has been told that he must sign for the Mariners by Monday or not at all, then went on to assess his current situation at the club:

"Nothing has been said yet about what's going on. It's not just about me coming to an agreement with Grimsby, I also have to come to an agreement with FC Copenhagen.

"I'm out of contract during the summer and the situation is really complicated, but I try not to let that bother me. If I play well, the team can benefit from it and I can benefit from it.

"I know it's a little frustrating for everyone, but as long as I can get my head together and perform like this, there's no problems."
