Lennie Lawrence offers Handyside Another Year

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 19/06/2001

GRIMSBY manager Lennie Lawrence is trying to persuade Peter Handyside to stay at Blundell Park for another year saying that one more injury-free season at the club could give him the chance of the prestigious big-money transfer he is seeking.

"...He could get the move he really wants if he does another year with us...."

"He's missed a lot of games, some through injury and some because I've not picked him. But what he really needs is a year where he plays 40 games with us, and then he could get the move he really wants if he does another year with us. Right now, that's my advice to him.," said Lawrence to the Grimsby Telegraph.

With Ivano Bonetti's Dundee, Aberdeen, Livingston and Millwall understood to have shown an interest, it seems that Lawrence's plea will not be good enough with Lawrence himself saying "He could get a couple of clubs in the Scottish Premier. I've no doubt about that. He hasn't indicated that he definitely wants to leave and that will wait until July now. I think he'll wait and see what offers he gets and I don't blame him for that. We'll meet again in the first week of July."
