Lennie Lawrence Wants to Beat Lincoln For The Fans

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 20/08/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE said he wants to beat Lincoln City for the fans. Talking after the game at West Brom Lawrence said "I want to get through it for the fans." Dubbed the battle of Lincolnshire, a win against Alan Buckley's team will bring some satisfaction for Mariners fans."

"I won't be rotating the squad because so many of the players are still injured. One or two of the lads might have to miss out but I'll be treating it like a League game."

The game is an important fixture for the Mariners. Apart from playing against former manager Alan Buckley, a win would set Town up for a good run in the cup which means more cash flowing into the club at a time when it is most needed.

The danger is getting players injured with many of the squad already in the treatment room and few experienced players on the bench. Although a cup run is much needed, the league games are the priority and it would be a problem if injured players affect the good start to the season with a game against Preston coming up on Saturday that Town are expected to win.
