Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Mentioned Part 2

"No disrespect to the likes of Grimsby..."

Cold Feet

A show recently seen here in Oz is called "Cold Feet" about the trials and tribulations of a group of friends living in the Nth of England somewhere. Anyway two of the characters are laying in bed together discussing their impending wedding and the lack of funds for it anyway Rachel turns to Adam and says: "The way were going we'll only be able to afford a weekend in Grimsby" they both look at each other and laugh (the bastards).

Mr Joe Kinnear

"If Wimbledon go down, it could be disastrous. They would be hit more than most clubs because they rely so much on revenue that the big clubs bring to the home games. Gates could drop by half if it is the likes of Grimsby going to Selhurst Park instead of Manchester United."

From the Guardian

"The Grimsbys, Yorks and Rochdales can no longer be guaranteed a big pay day from a decent transfer every season or so........"

They Think it's All Over.
(A clip of Watford scoring) "Something for Watford fans to remember on those cold nights in Grimsby and Crewe next season".

Front page of The Mirror

Dear Readers,
Sorry we had to ruin the FA Cup but, as you can see, we'd all
much rather be playing away at Grimsby on a cold and rainy Monday
night than be stuck out here in this Brazilian hellhole...
honestly.
Lots of love,
Manchester Utd.

Tales From The Boot Camps

In his Steve Claridge's biography Tales From The Boot Camps, the aftermath of the play-off final victory against Crystal Palace is described as follows:

When he had calmed down - about a month later - Steve told me: 'Just think. That goal means we are going to play at Old Trafford against Manchester United while Palace will be going to Grimsby.'
It duly happened. The fixture computer arranged for the two clubs to take their widely disparate journeys on the same day in the November of the next season.
(Poor Grimsby, incidentally; they seem to have replaced Oldham as the epitome of the unglamorous. So disparagingly referred to, so often are they, that their name seems unofficially to have been changed to Thelikesofgrimsby.)
