Clare Returns

News From 26th January 2000

Daryl Clare has been recalled from a loan at Northampton in time for tomorrow's crunch clash with Crewe at Blundell Park.

Jack Lester's move to Nottingham Forest and a one match ban for Lee Ashcroft has forced manager Alan Buckley into calling Clare back from the third month of his loan to Northampton. It now seems likely that Clare, who left after a supposed dressing room bust-up with his manager will become a crucial part of Buckley's future plans.

Following Jack Lester's move it means that Bradley Allen will also probably become one of Buckley's first choice strikers, after a season mostly spent on the bench.

He is on course to form a new partnership with Ashcroft (when he returns from suspension) but tomorrow's game should see Allen partnering Steve Livingstone.

That could mean that skipper Paul Groves moving back into defence, with Alan Pouton playing in the midfield, or Tony Gallimore moving into central defence (with David Smith at left back).
