Dave Moore in at Hull

News From 28th June 2000

Former Town defender David Moore has joined the management team across the river Humber at rivals Hull City. Moore has been appointed as joint assistant to new City boss Brian Little.

Hull City have recently been a club in turmoil with the latest news being that their former manager Warren Joyce is pressing the club for compensation claims of £70K after being sacked from Boothberry Park.
While Grimsby plan to move to a new ground, Hull have been struggling to be allowed in theirs! Last month the team and club officials were refused entry to the ground after failing to pay the rent owed to ground owner and former chairman David Lloyd. Lloyd had previously carried out his threat to obtain a winding-up order against City for the rent arrears.

This issue has been resolved temporarily after Hull City chairman Nick Buchanan payed £103,000 in rent arrears to previous owner David Lloyd out of his own pocket, but still lurks as a short to medium-term problem for the Tigers as £51,500 is still owed to Lloyd.

Moore was a tough-tackling defender for the Mariners in the late seventies and early eighties. He was a key part of a Grimsby side of that time, which featured several players born and bred in the area. Moore, together with his brothers Kevin and to a lesser extent Andy, were pivotal figures in the consecutive promotion seasons of 1978-79 and 1979-80. On the final game of the 1979-80 season Grimsby won the (then) third division tital in front of an ecstatic Blundell Park, beating Sheffield United 4-0.

In 1986-87 Moore was appointed by Mike Lyons as Youth Team coach at Blundell Park, still making the occasional first team appearance for the Mariners. The arrival of a certain Alan Buckley in 1988 saw Moore leave Grimsby, as Buckley appointed his own coaching staff.
