Ashcroft in Late Fitness Test
News From 21st April 2000
Town striker Lee Ashcroft faces a late fitness check on a hamstring twinge sustained in training yesterday, leading up to tomorrow's clash at Blundell Park with Blackburn Rovers. The likelihood, however, is that Ashcoft will be fit enough to make the starting line-up (if selected).
Manager Alan Buckley has the comparatively rare (in recent weeks) notion of choice when it comes to his front two strikers. Steve Livingstone impressed last week after his 2nd half substitution against Man City. The team appeared to have much more attacking options after Livo came on, and this has not gone unnoticed by the Town boss, who publicly praised Livingstone' performance after the game.
That being the case, Buckley may well decide to drop Daryl Clare in favour of Steve Livingstone, and place the young striker on the bench. This would mean skipper Paul Groves staying in the back four alongside Lever, and the Pouton-Coldicott partnership continuing in central midfield.
Blackburn are paying to transport 1,000 of their fans to Blundell Park as a gesture of goodwill to their fans.
