Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Each week we interview the long-suffering partner of a keen Town fan. Watching and reading about football can consume a lot of time, which can be a frequent bone of contention between partners when one partner is a keen fan and the other is not. This week's Cod Widow is Sue Osborne.

Fishy:
Tell us a bit about yourself.

Sue:
I am Susan Osborne wife of Bill (Billo). We live in a beautiful house in Port Macquarie in Australia. I sometimes think I am also married to Dave Larder. I spend more time talking to him than I do with Bill who is always busy on the net.

Fishy:
Do you support Town yourself, perhaps another club, or do you have no interest in football?

Sue:
I am a supporter in that I support Bill in what he does. When we lived in Grimsby I supported more but I was mainly friendly with some of the players wives. None of us were all that bothered about football.

Fishy:
Has Billo ever taken you to a game, when, and what do you think of it (the first one if more than one)?

Sue:
Yes many times. The first one I remember well. It was bloody freezing.

Fishy:
How big a part do GTFC play in Billo's life?

Sue:
GTFC is a big part in Bills life but it always has been.

Fishy:
Would you rank Billo's interest in the Mariners as obsessive, fanatical, healthy, moderate, or occasional?

Sue:
Obsessive.

Fishy:
How often a week do you think Billo thinks of something related to the Mariners?

Sue:
Only about 23 hours a day

Fishy:
Who has the deciding vote when there's a football match on TV that clashes with something you want to watch?

Sue:
Me but I usually give him it as he is usually on the net while I watch TV and that is good so I can watch my programmes.

Fishy:
What do you do when a Town game is taking place?

Sue:
I make the supper for him and Eric (Ex Grimsby who went to school with Bill) who comes from Sydney to our place when a game is on. Then I go to bed.

Fishy:
How often does Billo wear a Town shirt in a typical week?

Sue:
Every time a match is on and sometimes he goes out with it on.

Fishy:
Does Billo read the newspaper from the front or the back?

Sue:
From the front. He does not like Australian sports pages

Fishy:
Is it just Grimsby Town, or does Billo have other sporting teams or individuals they are passionate about?

Sue:
Snooker, boxing and England

Fishy:
How long after meeting Billo did they first mention the Mariners?

Sue:
The same day. Only about 1,000 times though.

Fishy:
Do you resent Grimsby Town taking up such a large part of Billo's life?

Sue:
I like him to be involved. It is his interest and keeps him happy and it doesn't worry him that I am not really interested in football but I do watch the cup final with him and the England games so that pleases him. He has never neglected me for football but he has tried a few times :>).
