Buckley Settlement

Date: 25/10/2000

Former Town boss Alan Buckley has reached an "amicable agreement" with the club's board in a financial settlement between Buckley and his former employers Grimsby Town. The ex-Grimsby manager had over almost two years left on his contract with the club when he was sacked.

Buckley, who was sensationally sacked by the board in August after just two games of the current season had elapsed, was replaced by current manager Lennie Lawrence within 3 days of his dismissal. The settlement agreement leaves Buckley free to find another managerial appointment within the game. He was earlier linked with the vacancies at both Plymouth and Halifax, but applied for neither job. The compensation package deal comes at the right time for Buckley to apply for the Huddersfield seat, just vacated by Steve Bruce (following the game at Blundell Park), for which the Yorkshire club are starting to look seriously at applicants this week. A spokesman for the club today said that the board were "happy with the agreement which benefits both parties". The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
