Pompey after Handy

Portsmouth player-manager Steve Claridge has confirmed interest in Grimsby defender Peter Handyside. Claridge revealed that the 26-year old Scot is one of a number of players he has been tracking although the Fratton Park boss stressed that he will not be making any new signings until the new year.

"I've got my eye on a lot of players, but we've got one of the highest wage structures in this division and we want to show a bit of improvement before we spend any more money now," said Claridge, as reported by Annanova. Former Scottish Under-21 international Handyside's contract with the Mariners expires at the end of this season making him a free-agent in the summer. If Handyside does not intend to sign a new contract it is likely that Grimsby boss Lennie Lawrence will look to cash in on the injury-prone defender.
