Question of the Week

Who will go down?

The Three Amigos!

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 01/12/2000

In spite of earlier assurances that there would be no new foreign signings, Lennie Lawrence has brought three new trialists to the club in the form of an Argentinian trio. The three amigos have already joined the club and Lawrence is set to cast his eye over them throughout next week.

Franco Vottola The most exciting prospect of the three new arrivals seems to be Franco Vottola (pictured on left). A former Argentina Under-18 international, Vottola is a tall, pacy striker who, in spite of being born in Argentina, holds dual nationality through an Italian father. This means that should Lennie Lawrence wish to bring Vottola to Blundell Park permanently, he would not require a work permit.

Vottola was born in the Argentinian coastal resort of Mar del Plata, and is therefore expected to adapt to life in Cleethorpes eventually.

Midfielder Christian Otero, 22, arrives in England with a point to prove after undergoing unsuccessful trials with both Crewe Alexandra and Norwich City.

The diminutive Otero, who has a reputation as a dead ball specialist is currently playing for Alverado in the Argentinian second division and bizarrely, he too possesses an Italian passport. Having graduated from Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina, Otero is now looking to fully establish himself in professional football.

Finally, there is very little information available on Maximiliano Ginobili, except to say that he is a left-sided defender.
