Lennie Breaks His Word

Mariners boss Lennie Lawrence appears to have broken his word during negotiations to bring on-loan Norwegian defender Knut Anders Fostervold to the club permanently. It has emerged that having previously agreed a fee of £300,000 for the player, Lawrence is no longer prepared to pay that amount.

"I was half pressured into agreeing a fee when he first came here. But I've told his club, and him, that we're not paying that," he told the Grimsby Evening Telegraph. "He's a good lad and a great pro and has settled down well, but I'm not paying that," continued the Grimsby manager, who is reported to have been impressed with both Fostervold's ability and attitude. Although the player is still contracted to Norwegian side FC Molde, the left-sided utility man still has several weeks ahead of him at Grimsby. It is unlikely that Molde will accept anything less than the agreed fee, and the possibility of an extension to the loan period seems equally remote as the Norwegian season is due to commence in just four months time.
