Who will go down?

Since the arrival of Lennie Lawrence a number of foreign players have come to the town of Cleethorpes trying to impress the new manager of Town. But have any of them actually done this? Many foreigners have been and left without impressing the new manager enough for them to be offered a shirt number

However there are survivors. The most noticeable of which is the Dynamic Dane David Nielsen. Since his arrival he has thrilled the fans, manager and fellow professionals. Without a shadow of a doubt David Nielsen has been the most exciting player at Town since the days of Ivano Bonetti. His ability to create chances from nothing leaves many in awe and his goal scoring capabilities are without question some of the best to grace the Blundell Park pitch. Although his future with Town is presently unclear long may the Great Dane stay at Grimsby Town Football Club. One of the few survivors of the Blundell Park foreign legion has also been FC Molde's Knut Anders Fostervold. Although, according to recent reports, the deal to bring the tough Nord here has been called off this doesn't mean anything is final. It has emerged that the £300,000 price tag attached to the 29 year old has been the major stumbling block in the deal. Fostervold also made an impression on the Town fans with his no nonsense tackling and sheer physical presence impressing the Grimsby faithful. Last but not least is Menno Willems. The Dutch maestro who is currently on loan from Vitesse Arnhem has already stamped his authority on being the clubs main piece taker taking corners and free kicks on a regular basis. His accurate corners and stunning free kicks have already caused problems for the opposition and he has also made his scoring start to his Mariners career. A fee of 160k has been agreed with his current employers but as we all know that doesn't mean the player is a Grimsby one yet. Personal terms still need to be agreed. I am sure Lennie Lawrence is keen to keep his foreign Legion and I am sure the Town regulars will agree that we all hope they sign and therefore strengthen our squad and hopefully (along with the other Town players) steer us clear of the relegation danger zone.
