26/03/2001 - E-Commerce

From Microsoft's Web Site

"There are several good reasons to add E-Commerce to your business strategy:

"In the UK 12.9 Million (28%) of adults (15 Years old +) now have access to the internet. (Mori Nov 1999)

"There are no geographic boundaries. A manufacturer or dealer in Grimsby can sell to buyers in Mississippi, Sardinia and Singapore without opening branch offices."

02/04/2001 - Mighty Mariner: Celebrity or Obscurity?

From BBC Question of Sport

Hey! Mighty Mariner has just been on the picture board on Question of Sport! They knew him as Town's mascot, but not his name - Ally guessing 'Captain Bird's Eye', and Parrot having a stab with Sammy The Shrimper. Tsk. When Sue Barker revealed the answer, everyone gave out the sort of groan which says 'oh right... nah, i never would have got that', rather than the 'oh god, yes! of *course* that's his name!' breed.

Ah well.

17/04/2001 - Majestic Blundell Park

From the London Evening Standard

Here we go again! It's the end of the season and newspaper sub-editors struggle yet again to find a suitable analogy to demonstrate the gulf between the Premiership and Division One.

Tonight's (Tuesday 17 April) London Evening Standard is congratulating Fulham on their promotion, and in just the second paragraph resort to type:

"The newly-crowned First Division champions know that they will be swapping trips to places as unappealing as Grimsby's Blundell Park for the majesty of grounds such as Old Trafford and Highbury.

"With a ground that has by-passed the Taylor report, Fulham cannot claim poverty as the reason that they haven't installed seats in place of standing terracing. Perhaps that's why they think every other ground is "majestic".

"If Lennie reads this, stick it up on the dressing room wall, and let the Mighty Mariners give Al Fayed's southern softies a right royal tonking on the last day of the season!"

Spotted by James Milne.
