WAYNE BURNETT today put pen to paper on a new one year contract with the Mariners, ending weeks of uncertainty over the 29-year-old midfielder's future at Blundell Park. Burnett, who has recently been placed on a week-to-week contract, has used the time to negotiate a new arrangement.

The Lambeth born midfielder, who has spent nearly three years at Blundell Park, had been looking for an appearance-based deal, but finally reached a compromise with manager Lennie Lawrence this afternoon said to take into account Burnett's injury problems over the last three seasons .

Burnett's signature came just in time for him to be able to participate in Town's pre-season tour of Sweden, with the squad embarking for Scandinavia tomorrow where they have three matches arranged with local sides Ystad, Trelleborg and Koge (Denmark).
