Lincoln Like Father, Like Son

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 20/07/2001

LINCOLN CITY have today completed the signing of former Grimsby Town midfielder Adam Buckley on a two year contract. The Nottingham-born midfielder joins his father, former Mariners' boss Alan Buckley now in charge of the Imps, at Sincil Bank.

Buckley, who had his contract with Grimsby Town ended by mutual consent earlier this week, failed to make a single first team appearance for the Mariners since his father was sensationally dismissed in August 2000. The 21-year-old midfielder will soon get a chance to play against his former teammates, as Grimsby and Lincoln are due to meet in the Worthington Cup on 21st August at Blundell Park.

Buckley Jr. is Alan Buckley's third new signing of this summer with the left-sided midfielder joining fellow ex-Mariner Kingsley Black and former Rotherham 'keeper Paul Pettinger at Sincil Bank. Grimsby Town second choice 'keeper Steve Croudson had also been linked with a season-long loan stint at Lincoln earlier this summer, although the story has since been dismissed by Alan Buckley as press speculation.

Earlier this month Paul Groves turned down the Number two spot at Sincil Bank, instead accepting a new player/coach arrangement at Blundell Park. The position has since been filled by yet another former Mariner, Keith Alexander, who was signed by Alan Buckley for Grimsby Town in 1988.

The former Grimsby Town and West Brom manager has a tendency for buying ex-players that at times resembles an obsessive infatuation.
