Lawrence Confirms His Interest In Mendonca Loan!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 23/08/2001

THE RUMOUR MILL is in full swing today with news that Clive Mendonca might return to Grimsby Town on a loan deal. Although there has been no confirmation, Lennie Lawrence said he is interested in seeing Mendonca back at Blundell Park.

In an interview with www.planetfootball.com today, Lennie confirmed his interest in Mendonca saying: "There is an interest in Clive. He's not fit enough yet, but yes, there is an interest there. If anything happened - which is by no means certain - it would be a loan deal. I haven't spoken to him - there's no point at the minute - but I am monitoring the situation and there's a possibility that we would be interested."

It is thought that Mendonca is not quite match fit but did play a part in a friendly game against Colchester.

"Livvo won't be available for some weeks, I wouldn't think, so that's why I'm looking. Bradley's making the right noises and he could even be in the squad for Preston on Saturday," said Lennie.

Lawrence's main concern at the moment is the centre half position with only Paul Groves and David Beharall fit.

"We're monitoring the centre half situation as well." said Lawrence. "We're looking, but it's not easy when they've got to be good enough and you ain't got too much money to pay them."
