Lennie Lawrence Named as Manager of the Month!

TOWN BOSS Lennie Lawrence has been named as Nationwide Manager of the Month for August. Grimsby rose to the top of the First Division for the first time in nearly twenty years on Saturday afternoon after the Mariners won three and drew one of their first five league games.

"...The last time Grimsby were top dinosaurs roamed the earth..."

Lawrence himself recognised the enormity of his achievement at the weekend saying jokingly: "The last time Grimsby were at the top of Division One, dinosaurs roamed the earth.

"Actually," he continued, "It’s 20 years since we were in top place so we'll just enjoy the moment." And what a moment it was! The rest of the nation may have spent Saturday night celebrating England’s famous victory in Germany, but Town fans had a double reason to rejoice long into the night!

The Fishy has today published an interview with the former Luton and Charlton boss, describing the management techniques the man known as "Houdini" (due to his exploits in the past at avoiding relegation with other clubs) has used to steer the Mariners towards the "right" end of the table this season. The interview can be read here.

Bristol City manager Danny Wilson picked up the award for Division Two while table-topping Rochdale's Steve Parkin won the Division Three honour.
