Where will Grimsby be next season?

Ryan Green Joins On Trial

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 02/10/2001

WOLVES right back Ryan Green has joined Grimsby Town on trial as a potential replacement for John McDermott, who looks likely to miss most of the remainder of the current season. 20-year-old Green, who has played six times for Wolves, is expected to play in tomorrow's reserve match against Lincoln.

Ryan Green Cardiff-born Green, who has had loan spells away from Molineux at Kidderminster and Torquay, made history when he was the youngest ever player to represent his country - eclipsing even Manchester United's Ryan Giggs on that score at least.

The right back has fallen out of favour at the West Midlands club, and a move to Blundell Park could prove to be the kick start that Green's career needs, at the same time benefiting the Mariners when they are desperately short of players - let alone cover - in defensive positions.

Green is available on a free transfer but Wolves are insisting on a clause for a sell-on fee. Wolves manager Dave Jones, who today took over from Lennie Lawrence as manager of the month for Division One, said: "We would expect a percentage of any future profit that might be made on him. He has a decision to make and I hope he grabs this opportunity. We're trying hard to help him find another club."
