At the present ground it is impossible to expand, Blundell Park is a nightmare to get to and the spaces for parking are inadequate. 2. In order to continue running GTFC need to attract support. For a number of years GTFC are struggling to stay at their present level, it is impossible to buy players as their is not enough supporters attending matches, if GTFC moved to a new ground more supporters would attend and GTFC would be in a better position to attract new players. 3. The brilliant result at Liverpool in October shows the massive potential of the club. To beat a team full of internationals when Grimsby had 7 players missing and the side consisted of loan players and free transfers, with an average age of 22, proves that GTFC could play at a higher level. 4. The proposed site is next to the main road in and out of Grimsby, therefore the traffic going to the football would not go into the Town itself. 5. Although the site is near Great Coates it is not actually in the centre. The plans, I believe, include adequate parking provisions for supporters, also there are plans for restaurants,pub etc so therefore the argument that fans would make excessive noise etc and create traffic problems should not arise. 6. You only have to look at the Scunthorpe ground and it's location, I don't believe there are any problems there. That ground is out of town and has easy access,in and out. Furthermore I dont believe they had any protests etc and have had no problems with people attending. 7. The majority of football grounds in the country are in the centre of town. If clubs had the choice of moving out of town they would snap it up. 8. The already overstretched police would not be needed as much. Instead of patrolling the streets around the ground and organising traffic etc, the police could continue on important issues. The traffic could be monitored by stewards from the club. 9. Reading FC have a new ground next to a motorway and on a busy industrial site, the volume of traffic in that area is 3 times as much as that in Grimsby. They provide parking,monitored by stewards,and there are no problems. 10. A lot of clubs are moving to new grounds, we are now in the 21st century,things move on,WE HAVE TO MOVE WITH THE TIMES IF WE CONTINUE TO EXIST. 11. GTFC have provided many people with joy for a great number of years, they bring the county into the spotlight, they have the respect of the football world for playing at a high level and operating on overstretched budgets. FOOTBALL NEEDS CLUBS LIKE GTFC. FOOTBALL IS ALL ABOUT SHOCKS,THE LITTLE CLUBS UPSETTING THE GIANTS,TOWNS WIN OVER LIVERPOOL GOT THE ATTENTION OF THE WHOLE COUNTRY'S MEDIA AND TV. 12. Shouldn't you do a project involving every football club before rejecting the site. Every club has it's supporters,surely they should have a better insight as to the location of a ground than people who reject the idea before looking into it and politicians who only go to a game when it brings them publicity,never mind the fact that they don't have to pay! (gtfc at Wembley twice in 1998) I BELIEVE I HAVE PROVIDED A LOGICAL AND REASONABLE ARGUMENT IN SUPPORT OF A NEW GROUND. PLEASE ALLOW GTFC TO SURVIVE AND PROSPER BY MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION - THE ONLY DECISION!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Kevin Bourne (212.103.233.2)- Octo 15, 2001 - 08:14:57 Keelby [UK] I think Blundell Park is great little ground with plenty of atmosphere. However, it has 2 main problems. Firstly, it is too small. Whilst the average attendance is only just over 6,200, there are plenty of opportunities in the season to more than fill the ground with its current capacity. As more and more money piles into football, clubs in the first division are getting bigger and bigger. No doubt there will plenty of opportunities to fill a 15,000 capacity stadium. The second problem with BP is the access, parking is atrocious. On sell out occasions you are lucky to get within 20-25 minutes of the ground and post match traffic is horrendous. Surely residents around BP have a much greater argument for not having the ground near them than the Great Coates residents. I struggle understand how Great Coates residents will be affected when 99% of match goers will access the new ground from the A180. I urge any protesters to think about the greater good of the entire town for what appears to be a small (if not zero) personal cost. |

The jobs the overall development will bring to the area is also essential. The club needs this stadium for its survival, a situation which is becoming more and more common across the football league. Only a very small minority in Great Coates object to this and it is important to remember there are also many from this area who are in favour. |

| Gary Spate (62.254.0.4)- Octo 15, 2001 - 07:50:35 Cleethorpes [United Kingdom] With the club's current financial situation we need a new ground that will be able to hold quite a few thousand more than what BP can hold, however, Peter Furneaux's change to a 14,000 seater is not acceptable. We need 21,000 and we need it as soon as possible. The Great Coates site is the most adequate space in the whole of NE Lincs, on a major roadway, away from a residential area so there's room for future expansion and there'll be plenty of new commercial spinoffs for this new stadium. For the sake of the future of the club we need this new stadium...and we need it fast. |

The development of a new complex and Football Stadium, will provide a stimulous for Community growth, that cannot be achieved at Blundell Park. To arrive at the correct decision for the community, all sections of the community have to be considered. With this in mind, the provision of Community Development, Social Inclusion, and Regional Spirit, will only be achieved if this project is given the go-ahead. Otherwise, the whole region will become a Black Hole in any economic community regeneration in UK. |

I, along with probably every other town fan, are fed up of being fobbed off with petty excuses of why the planning is being delayed. In my opinion we have waited long enough now that it is time for everyone associated with the club to act against the delays otherwise when the decision IS finally made it might be too late for Grimsby Town's financial survival! |
