Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Alan Neilson Signs in Time For Watford

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 19/10/2001

NEW SIGNING Alan Neilson will be in Grimsby's lineup tomorrow after signing a contract until the end of the season. Town face Watford at Blundell Park tomorrow and the ex-Fulham defender will be a welcome inclusion in the team.

"We've got the team back and the balance will be right. Menno will be back in and hopefully Alan Neilson will be ready to play," said Lawrence to the Grimsby Telegraph. "We've got five games in the next 14 days and that will determine if it's a relegation battle or not. It's an important period and the cup game is a bit too far away to think about."

"But the team is back and Bradley's fit and Michael Boulding's fit and Stacy is nearly back. Ben Chapman we know can do a job and David Beharall can compete with Marlon and Grovesy."

"The bottom four are playing each other tomorrow but the longer we go without a win the closer we get to it. It's a slow, slow descent because nothing much has been happening down there but, if we keep this form up, we'll get there eventually."

Lawrence admits that he was 'amazed' by the Mariners following at Anfield. "It was fantastic. When I was at Middlesbrough we took 10,000 fans to Old Trafford for the semi-final of the cup, but when you compare the size of the two clubs, the support at Liverpool was amazing."

"I'm hoping there will be a decent turnout. Last week was disappointing but not totally surprising. They're a young team who made a massive physical and emotional effort and anyone who understands about football knows that's hard. It needed the ability to rotate four or five players and that wasn't there."

Grimsby Town:Coyne, Gallimore, Neilson, Groves, Broomes, Campbell, Pouton, Butterfield, Willems, Jevons, Rowan, Croudson, Allen, Boulding, Beharall, Coldicott.
