Where will Grimsby be next season?

The "Messiah" Hoping To Face The Mariners!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 02/11/2001

DAVID NIELSEN returned from injury at Bradford last Tuesday after his calf injury appearing as a second-half substitute, and says he is desperately hoping to be in the side that faces his old team Grimsby on Saturday.

Nielsen dubbed the "Messiah" when he was at Grimsby can expect a cold reception from the traveling Grimsby fans who remember well how he left Grimsby under a cloud with accusations of greed leveled at him after he failed to agree terms with the Mariners.

On the Wimbledon FC website www.wimbledon-fc.co.uk today he said: "It will be nice to play against them I am back from injury now, feel good and hopefully I will be in with a shout of starting the game."

"I am not used to being injured and it has been really frustrating not even being able to train with the lads or go on the away trips which is something I really enjoy. I know I was only out for a month but it has seemed ages so I am very pleased to be back in with the squad and in contention for a place in the team."

After leading 3-1 at Bradford but only managing a 3-3 draw was a bitter disappointment to the whole squad and David says it was a game the Dons never should have lost.

"Scoring three goals away from home means you should come home with the points and although we would have taken a draw before the game it felt like we had lost when we left the pitch. All we can do is build on what we are doing and keep playing the way we have been and I am sure a win will come."

"At Bradford for 75 minutes we were outstanding and not many teams in this league can match us when we play football so it is a case of getting a few wins under our belts and turning these performances into victories."

"It is going to be a tough game against Grimsby and although people will perhaps look at this game and think we should win easily that will not be the case. What I found when I was up there was that they are a very hard-working side but also they can play a bit of football as well.

"You don't go to Anfield and beat Liverpool unless you have some decent players. It doesn't matter what sort of team they had out, they still got the win and they should be given great credit for that.

"Players such as Jonathan Rowan, who was a young striker in the reserves when I was there is a very good player and will be one to watch up front and also Stuart Campbell who they signed from Leicester is dangerous."

"Lennie Lawrence will have a game plan to stop us but it is a game we must win and I believe the way we have been playing recently we are due a victory."
