Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Groves Has Some Late Decisions To Make

By: Richard Lord
Date: 22/03/2002

GRIMSBY Town manager Paul Groves believes tomorrow's big game against Wimbledon at Blundell Park will be their toughest test yet. The 36-year old knows that anything other than win would simply not do.

Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph Groves said: "I feel this will be our toughest game to date, particularly coming off the back of the Wolves result. They are a good side who like to play football."

There are two injury worries ahead of the 3pm kick off. Michael Boulding has been suffering from a virus all week but was able to train yesterday. Groves continued: "We are hopeful that Michael will make it. Provided there is no reaction he should be OK."

The other injury doubt is Stuart Campbell but a decision to include him in the squad or not will be made at the last minute, depending on whether the young left-sided midfielder recovers sufficiently from a sore groin.

In recent weeks Stacy Coldicott and Wayne Burnett have been vying for a midfield spot and it was the former Baggie that was preferred last week for the game at Wolves. However, his place is not guaranteed with Burnett waiting in the wings.

The manager will make a decision on whether to go for the more aggressive approach in Coldicott, or a creative approach in Burnett. Groves added: "We are mulling it over. Each player gives you a different kind of option. Both have done well and it is nice to have the competition."

The good news that Andy Todd will be able to stay at Blundell Park for the rest of the season should get the fans back for the Wimbledon game. The gaffer concluded by adding: "Andy gives us a high level of consistency. His quality on the ball allows us to play out from the back and his goals have been a bonus. It's been a massive move for us."
