Question of the Week

Who will go down?

If Danny Should Go

By: Ray Lucas
Date: 29/03/2002

AS THE END of the season fast approaches, the big clubs will surely once again come sniffing round our prize asset Danny Coyne in the summer. Surely a big offer would prove too tempting to resist. I thought I would use this column to look at possible alternatives to "the great one".

Mark Tyler (left) of Peterborough would fit in perfectly as he is still in his early 20s. Add to the fact he's been watched by Liverpool, and he must be special. Danny is quality, but it seems like a matter of time before he is given the chance to prove himself on the biggest stage in domestic football.

David Lucas (right, no relation) has been frozen out of the Preston picture and could well prove a worthy successor. Of course, Preston boss Kelham O'Hanlon (a former hero of mine) might have other ideas. Not forgetting the talent on our doorstep, surely it must be time for Steve Croudson to step out of Danny's shadow.

Good keepers have been many at Blundell Park, and Danny has already proved to be outstanding. Crystal Palace's out of favour Alex Kolinko (left) has good presence in the box and would relish the chance of a career kick start.

Mark Ormerod of Brighton could also be given the opportunity of playing at Blundell Park. But whatever happens, I'm sure we will have another hero soon. Paul Robinson (right) of Leeds is someone I would love to see at Blundell Park if only for a short while. Whatever Happens, Danny will always be Number 1 in my eyes.
