Welcome Back Livvo!

AFTER Saturday's drawn game against Norwich which most pundits thought Grimsby should have won, it was only natural that the focus would be on the three new players and the return of Mariners hero, Steve Livingstone.

Livvo spoke of his relief at finally making a game before end of the season when it seemd that he would not take any part at all saying his appearance at Norwich was something of which he could only dream about.

"A lot of people said to me I should save myself for next season but July seems a long way off so I set myself little goals and always hoped to play a few games before the end of this season."

"That was my target and, a week ago, the thought was that I would get back for the last two games. I said why not for the last three?, and that's what has happened and I'm really delighted."

Livvo laid on the Cooke's equalizer. "Galli hung it up to me and I laid it back and Terry Cooke still had a lot to do but he finished it magnificently. It was a great goal and a good result and you know, in the end, I think we maybe should have won the game."

Paul Groves heaped praise on the three new boys after they helped his side gain a vital point at Norwich said the Grimsby Telegraph with all three, Terry Cooke, Paul Robinson and Willie Falconer making important contributions.

On the Relegation battle Groves said: "It is in our own hands and has been for a while now."

"The spirit is good and our performances of late have been good. We can take a lot of positives from the game and go into the next one confident. There is a belief in the dressing room that we can achieve survival and our performances have shown that."

"We haven't set any targets - we just want safety, whatever it takes, whether it's a win, two wins or a draw."

"Terry has put in a good performance for his first game with the club. He is talented, and he has shown that today, not only with his goal but with his all round play. He was a threat and Norwich found him difficult to handle."

Groves also said that Cooke's future would depend on first division survival and the outcome of the Football League's dispute with ITV digital.

"It is a credit to the lads who came in and showed a great desire to work hard and do well for themselves individually and for the team. But it also credit to the lads who play week-in, week-out. It could have been an excuse that we had new players in, but the regular players played to the new lads' strengths."

"When you look back on the game we had a considerable amount of possession in the second half and the better chances as well. We were a bit unfortunate not to come away with all the points. I was unlucky with the one that hit the bar and I should have scored with the free header."
