Mariners Tour - Opposition Details!

The Mariners have announced their pre-season tour to Scandinavia. Matches have been arranged with clubs in Sweden, where they will be based, and Denmark and Norway. The Fishy has been taking a look at the opposition and some of their star players.

Most Famous Player:

John "Faxe" Jensen - became world famous during the European Championship in Sweden in the 90's, and was later sold to Arsenal. Today Faxe is 37 years old and is player manager for the club.

The scout:

Young striker Mads Westh is a former FC Copenhagen player, and he was linked to the Mariners on trial during Lennie Lawrence's term as manager.

The club:

Formed in 1921 by some young lads during a boring evening in the little village. Today they are well known for their talents and are rated amongst the best clubs in Denmark. Surprisingly they won the Danish league in 1999/2000 for their first time, and even more surprisingly they were relegated the year after. This year they have played on the Danish second level, but it does not seem likely that they will get promoted this season.

Most Famous Player:

Michael Johansen is a former Bolton Wanderers player. The technical midfielder won the English 1st division title with Wanderers, but has still not gained any caps for Denmark.

The scout:

Kenny Thorup is an attacking midfielder, who would perhaps had been a star abroad now if it wasn't for a serious injury that kept him out for one and a half year years. The 24 year old has several caps for Denmark at U-21 level. He also won silver in the Euro U-16's several years ago. His agent Torben Lust hopes to help him get abroad now after a good season for AB.

The club:

Formed in 1889 by students. AB has this season been a mid table team in the Danish Superliga. The Danish club have a co-operation deal with Graham Taylor's Aston Villa. It's no secret that several of the AB players have a dream to play for Villa.

Most famous Player:

Mirko Selak is currently top scorer at the second level in Denmark with 17 goals in 23 league games. The 24 year old is a former Croatian Youth international when with Hajduk Split.

The scout:

Defender Samir Haiba is said to be the Frem player with the biggest potential. He has several youth caps, is a good team player and a strong runner.

The club:

Are currently number four in the Danish 1 division. A Copenhagen side in the shadow of the giants Brøndby and FC Copenhagen. Frem was founded in 1886 and is one of Denmark's oldest clubs that has had several star players throughout that time.
