The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Football League Judgement Day

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 01/08/2002

THE judgement in the Football League's legal battle against Carlton and Granada over the collapse of ITV Digital has been handed down today, with the judges finding for Carlton and Granada.

This news will be a shock to the Nationwide League Clubs, some of whom are on the brink of administration or receivership after ITV Digital collapsed leaving them with a 1.9 million deficit.

For Grimsby Town, the news could not have been worse with the club struggling to make ends meet, offloading players to reduce the wages bill, cutting the first team squad to the very minimum, and almost abolishing the reserve team and relying on the youth squad to fill the gap.

  • The future of Division One side Bradford City is secure after creditors voted to accept a rescue package to save the Yorkshire club, who were £33m in debt. Creditors agreed today to a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) which will see them receive 10p for every pound they are owed by the Bantams, who Town will play later this month.
