Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Norwich Cruise Home

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 11/08/2002

NORWICH who lost 4-0 in their first game last season reversed that score today hammering the Mariners 4-0. with The Northern Ireland international Phil Mulryne taking 2 goals and Paul McVeigh also scoring twice.

McVeigh was on instead of David Nielsen, who has an injured toe. Terry Cooke, Paul Robinson and Steve Chettle, Grimsby's new signings, were all included in starting line up

Steve Livingstone, had the first chance for Grimsby with a drive from inside the box but failed to make it.

New-boy Darren Barnard was introduced by Grimsby boss Paul Groves shortly afterwards and he was quickly into the action, firing over the crossbar with a vicious 20-yard strike.

But Nigel Worthington's men were hungry for more goals, and McVeigh netted his second in the 70th minute, latching onto a Roberts through-ball before sliding the ball under Coyne.

Roberts was withdrawn five minutes later to give a late run-out to Nielsen, and the former Grimsby man should have completed the scoring soon afterwards but sent his header inches wide.

Barnard was brought on in the second half and almost immediately fired a wicked shot that was unlucky not to go in.

But overall, Norwich were not bothered by Town and they cruised home in the end.
