Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

A Brief Respite!

Date: 03/10/2002

GRIMSBY Town are desperately fighting for survival with the club nearing administration and with players injured, Paul Groves is struggling to put a team together.

The board are having no success in attracting new investors to the club so we may see another major cost cutting exercise commencing. One of the measures that surely must be under consideration is raising the price of tickets a further pound. The board have refused to consider that as an option but circumstances may force their hand.

There has been some good news today with Town being paid some outstanding money from FLPTV, which was owed to the club from commercial activities tied to the Grimsby Town's official website. The £97,000 was paid when the Football League and the Internet Company FLPTV struck a new deal.

All the league clubs that were owed money from this agreement have been paid, and the contract has been renegotiated and will last for 25 years. As the new deal is based on the commercial activities rather than "hits", it means fans spending £10 on GTFC goodies on the website will put an extra £8 into the club coffers.

That is some relief but does not go anywhere near solving the financial crisis the club is in and there is now an urgent need for the club to find new money.
