Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Play The Game!

THERE can be no doubt that Town's performance against Coventry was another example of the abysmal football that they play from time to time and it is only to be expected, that the fans who paid to see the game, would be unhappy, to say the least.

On a day when we needed to perform, we failed miserably and the fans had every right to voice their disapproval.

But the booing and jeering of one player is not acceptable.

According to reports, the loudest cheer of the game from Town fans was when he was substituted. That should have been sufficient.

But throughout the game, he was booed and jeered at by sections of the crowd whenever he got the ball, which could be heard over the Radio Humberside commentary.

If fans are dissatisfied by the team performance then the booing and jeering should have been directed to the whole team at the end of the game.

If a player is not performing, fans getting on his back during the game is not going to inspire him to play any better and it could have the opposite effect, which appeared to be the case on this occasion.

If fans are unhappy with the team selection, then the manager should bear the brunt of their criticism. Not individual players.

It is poor to hear home supporters booing their own player in front of the opposition fans. But there is nothing wrong in showing their displeasure at the team performance at the end of the game.

I, for one, would have booed them off the field had I been there and witnessed a poor performance. But castigating one player who might have been the worst of a bad bunch achieves nothing but bitterness.

Frustration is the name of the game in supporting Grimsby Town. We have enough problems as it is. We do not have to create more.
