IT seems that a plague of goalkeepers has landed on the British landscape and managers seem to be over run with surplus 'keepers with more than 50 looking for clubs! But have no fear, Grimsby's manager, Paul Groves, who seems to have a collectors fetish for 'keepers, will find a place for them.

Even the National teams are affected by this over supply, with Mark Hughes shedding one of the prize pieces in the 'Groves Collection.'

Danny Coyne has expressed his disappointment at missing out on Wales's trip to the USA this week. Coyne was originally named with Darren Barnard in the 26-man squad but the Welsh manager cut the original squad down to 20, meaning Coyne and Barnard missed out.

Coyne told the Grimsby Telegraph; "Mark Hughes rang me to tell me that he would be taking only two goalies and it wouldn't be fair to take me and not play me at all. I thought I might have had a chance going with both Ward and Jones being involved with matches before the trip."

"I'm obviously disappointed as it was going to be a good trip but Mark Hughes told me not to read anything into missing the trip. Hopefully I'll get playing at the start of next season and try and get my place back for the qualifiers."

Chris Porter!

Darlington keeper Chris Porter has been shown the door by manager Mick Tait but is hoping he can resurrect his career at Grimsby Town.

Porter is not in Mick Taits plans and the former Sunderland stopper said; "To be fair I was in quite confident mood that I'd be getting a new contract, I'd been doing okay all season and I was pretty pleased with my performances when I came into the first-team."

"It did come as a shock but these kind of things happen in football - all I can do is pick myself up and get on with things. My agent has got to work straight away and got the ball rolling so I went down to Grimsby last week."

"I'll be training with them again and hopefully they'll be able to get a better look at me in pre-season."

Steve Croudson who has had a torrid last few months with a shoulder injury, has been pronounced fit again and is looking to challenge Coyne for Grimsby's number one slot.

Shaun Allaway: Also lurking in the background is the very ambitious Shaun Allaway, who although listed at number 3 is determined to climb much higher in the rankings and is set to give Steve Croudson a run for his money for second choice position.

Others: Bradley Hughes and Paul Fraser are also listed as Grimsby Town 'keepers and there are other young 'keepers in the pot somewhere with the youth teams.

With the arrival of Porter, the current count of goalies at Blundell Park is around 6 or 7, or perhaps even a round dozen. It is difficult to keep count nowadays!
