Groves Continues To Chase Keane!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 02/06/2003

PAUL Groves has vowed to launch a second bid to sign Michael Keane even though he snubbed a summer switch to Blundell Park, writes Stuart Rowson in the Grimsby Telegraph today.

"At this moment in time the deal is not happening. But we shall be trying to resurrect our bid to sign him permanently." Said Groves today.

But Craig Brown said; "I've had a chat with Michael Keane, having returned to Preston North End following his loan spell at Grimsby Town, and he told me he wants to stay here. Keano has decided to stay and fight for his place." "Michael Keane is one of five players who have been out on loan this season. But the sheet will be wiped clean in pre-season. If he impresses in pre-season and in training, then I'll pick the best team I feel right to start the new season."

What is interesting is that the Grimsby Telegraph also said; "If Groves can secure the signature of the Republic of Ireland Under 21 international he will become the final piece in next season's midfield jigsaw, with Stuart Campbell, Stacy Coldicott and Alan Pouton expected to be the other three. With the future of left-back Tony Gallimore uncertain, Keane would increase the balance of the squad, with Darren Barnard currently the only left-footer at the club capable of playing down the flank or in defence.
