Keeping Tabs

THIRD time lucky. I’ve delved into The PFA list to see which goalies are available and would fancy being our No. 1 now Danny Coyne has gone. With having only youngsters available in this position at the moment, I wonder if Town could sign two goalies instead of the one to beef our squad up.

I’ve picked these goalies and as usual I'll rate their likelihood of signing for Town. I think this signing could surprise a few people as to who comes to Blundell Park in the next few days.

So here’s my list and a rating out of 5 on each player

Aidan Davidson Aidan Davidson (Ex-Bradford) Davo did us proud in his first spell at Blundell Park and would be a worthy replacement for the departed Danny Coyne. I wonder if his friendship with the Gaffer will swing his signature for Town.

Rating 5/5

Andy Marshall Andy Marshall (Ex-Ipswich) Played for their rivals Norwich for most of his career and must wonder if it was worth moving to Ipswich now he is going for a free transfer.

Rating 1/5

Andy Petterson Andy Petterson (Ex-Bournemouth) Turned down a move a few years ago to Grimsby Town when Alan Buckley was the manager, but since then has had a few clubs to put on his CV and I wonder if he’s worth taking a gamble on.

Rating 2/5

Andy Marriott Andy Marriott (Ex-Birmingham) Started out as a trainee at Arsenal and then has played in the top three divisions of English football with a list of numerous clubs in England, but I think he’s the outsider of all my list.

Rating 1/5

Gary Kelly Gary Kelly (Ex-Sheff Utd) Has a famous dad who was also a goalie and is well known for his spell at Newcastle early in his career. Has aged well against signing for another team, never mind Town.

Rating 1/5

Gary Walsh Gary Walsh (Ex-Bradford) Fought with Davidson for the Bantam's number one jersey and won, he played 127 games for them over 5 years but is another one who’s getting on a bit.

Rating 2/5

John Karelse John Karelse (Ex-Newcastle) A former NAC Breda player who signed for the Geordies in 1999 for £500,000 and has been their number 3 'keeper during that period. I just wonder if he will get another club now his Newcastle career is over.

Rating 1/5

Peggy Arphexad Peggy Arphexad (Ex-Liverpool) Started out his career in English Football with Martin O’Neill at Leicester City and then was snapped up by Liverpool a few years later but had a bit part to play there with Kirkland and Dudek both at Anfield.

Rating 2/5

Marlon Beresford Marlon Beresford (Ex-Burnley) Another goalie that has had 2 spells with the same club and underachieved as well. I don’t think there’s much chance of him signing for Town.

Rating 1/5

Nik Michopoulos Nik Michopoulos (Ex-Burnley) I've picked him out as you need an XL shirt to fit his name on your shirt and would help the coffers out at Blundell Park if we signed him. He’s got 13 caps for Greece and I wonder if he'll get many more if there’s any chance of him signing for the Mariners.

Rating 2/5

So here’s my list and over the next few days I wonder if I'm even close to the new goalkeeper who'll sign for us
