MARINERS' boss Russell Slade is expected to make several changes to the side that won at Cambridge on Saturday when they travel to Carlisle on Tuesday evening for the first round of the LDV Trophy.

Colin Cramb has signed non-contract terms with the Mariners and will go straight into the squad. Slade will have to decide whether to start the experienced striker, having only met his new team mates a day before the game.

Justin Whittle has been carrying a back problem in recent weeks so could well be rested, with Greg Young and Glen Downey in contention for a place in the starting eleven. Downey is yet to start a game for the Mariners since his move from Scarborough, so this could prove a perfect opportunity to get him involved in some competitive action.

Terrell Forbes is not cup-tied as he was for the league cup encounter, whilst Jason Crowe could drop down to the bench after carrying a knock from last Tuesday’s game with Charlton. With no Ronnie Bull, who is injured at present, this could mean a shift of formation to 4-4-2, with McDermott and Gordon as full backs or if Slade sticks with 3-4-3, Dean Gordon could move forward to left wingback.

Thomas Pinault will hope to return after being rested for Saturday’s trip to Cambridge - he could replace either Terry Fleming or Stacy Coldicott, with Fleming the more likelier option. Meanwhile, in attack, Andy Parkinson could be given a rest along with Ashley Sestanovich. Parkinson has played in every one of the Mariners games this season.

Chris Williams is unlikely to be given permission to play by Stockport, leaving the door open for the likes of Clint Marcelle, Paul Robinson and Graham Hockless. Whatever team Town play though, they need to be on their toes with Carlisle the only unbeaten team in the Conference - winning five and drawing five of their opening 10 games. On Saturday they demolished Aldershot 5-0, with a certain Darren Barnard in the Shots side.

Predicted Town Team (3-4-3)

Anthony Williams, Glen Downey, Terrell Forbes, Greg Young, John McDermott, Dean Gordon, Thomas Pinault, Stacy Coldicott, Graham Hockless, Colin Cramb, Michael Reddy

Subs: Clint Marcelle, Rob Jones, Ashley Sestanovich, Terry Fleming, Jason Crowe

Fishy Prediction: 2-1 to the Mariners
