Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Player Ratings: Shrewsbury

Date: 15/04/2006

EXPECTATION was high as Grimsby took on mid-table Shrewsbury at Blundell Park for what, on paper, looked to be one of the easisest of their five remaining games.

GKMildenhallWill be disappointed with his positioning for the Shrews goal which led to a easy header for Barlow (the Shrewsbury centre back). He then kept Shrewsbury at bay as straight after the Mariners goal the Shrews attacker was clear through only for Mildy to pull off a top save with his feet. He commanded well and did okay but will be disappointed with the goal. 6
RBCroftGot up and down the wing well and threatened the opposition with his eagerness to press forward. Did well but again didn't stand out as fantastic. Okay but could do better. 6
LBNeweyStarted brightly and really impressed me while he was on the pitch. He defended well and looked a danger going forward. His skills and trickery were a touch of class and could be very useful in the final third. Though he was substituted through injury he still did well and should be very happy with his efforts.7
CBRob JonesDefended well and made a number of top tackles which sent the Pontoon into chants of his name. He made Stallard and Langmead look poor with his willingness to get stuck and fight for the team. He also powered home a perfect header to give the Mariners the lead only for a dubious linesman to overrule him and award a free kick.
CBWhittleDid okay and dealt with the Shrewsbury attacks well. He allowed Jones to do most of the work while he covered in a sweeper like position. Was then substituted to allow Futcher's presence to enter the mixer. 6
LWGoodfellowGave the ball away at times a bit to easily but still had a very good game which was capped off by a fantastically struck penalty to earn the Mariners a point. He looks a nippy little player that could be a real asset to the club in the coming weeks. Looked good. 7
CMWoodhouseNot as good as usual but still played some creative balls through but nothing seemed to get past a resilient Shrewsbury defence whose only game plan was to stop Michael Reddy. Did okay but not his best.6
CMBollandDid alright but gave the ball away too easily and looked slightly hasty about getting it upfield as soon as possible. Still chased well and tried his best which are his main attributes. Not his best game but tried. 6
RMParkinsonQuestion: What did he do? Answer: Lost the ball, looked clueless and offered nothing to the team. He showed no passion and looked as if he wanted to be somewhere else. How does he play instead of Toner? 5
FCG JonesThrough long parts he was non-existent and had to live off scrappy balls from the wings. He came back a bit too much and left Reddy quite isolated which probably resulted in the Mariners lack of firepower going forward. Still if he gets one at Orient that's enough. 6
FCReddyReceived poor service and was targeted by the Shrewsbury defence as the main threat. This was shown in their tight marking of him and their deep defending to counter Town's long ball approach. Still chased and played with a injury. 6.5
SubCroftOkay. Did his job.6
SubMendesBest game for Town as he chased and caused them problems. Better than Parkinson on today's basis.7

Match Rating6Okay for Shrewsbury but we weren't good enough.
Officials4Blew up too much and disallowed a certain goal
Crowd Rating7Pontoon were quite loud today.
