Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Nicky Rizzo
Nicky Rizzo

Rizzo Joins Grimsby

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/01/2007

GRIMSBY have signed MK Dons winger Nicky Rizzo on loan for a month. The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at the League Two club and was placed on the transfer list in October after having made just three appearances for Martin Allen's side this season.

The Australian left-sided winger has also played for Crystal Palace and Italian Serie B side Ternana Calcio and was a regular in the Dons' side last season.

Rizzo is noted for his quick and accurate passing. He played for Sydney Olympic and was spotted by Terry Venables which resulted in him moving to the UK just before he was due to take trials with the Australian national team, the Socceroos.

A fans favourite with the MK Dons before his injury and was voted by fans as "player of the month" on more than one occasion.

He has had injury problems and has only just got back to fitness but in October 2006 when MK Dons had a major clear out he was listed as a 'free'. Since then, he has been working hard in training hoping that MK Dons will change their minds as they did with another Aussie player who was listed at the same time.

Rizzo said: "Until I find a new club I'm still a Dons player so I'm going to give it everything."

  • Town's postponed game with Chester has been re-arranged for Tuesday (9th) at Blundell Park. The match will kick off at 19:45.
