Rankin Joins Silkmen

INJURY blighted striker Isaiah Rankin has joined League Two side Macclesfield Town on loan until the end of the season. The former Brentford striker has missed almost the whole season through injury and lack of fitness.

The big striker, who has had spells at Barnsley and Bradford, still has a year left on his contract at Blundell Park, so will be at Grimsby next season unless an offer is made for him.

Rankin scored on Wednesday night for the reserves, as did another forgotten man Michael Reddy, who also set up Rankin's goal in the 2-1 win over Hartlepool.

Reddy, who is out of contract in the summer, is desperate to prove his fitness in the remainder of the season. The Irishman asked to be placed on the transfer list at the start of the season, then was offered a new contract by Town, which has since been withdrawn following a unsuccessful hip operation on Reddy. Ironically Town turned down a six figure sum from Bristol City for Reddy just over a year ago.
