Buckley Pleased With Three New Deals Agreed.

Date: 19/04/2007

CIARAN Toner, Nick Hegarty and Justin Whittle have agreed with Town boss Alan Buckley to stay at the club with Buckley saying he is delighted.

Ciaran Toner, is set to sign a two-year deal. Justin Whittle wishes to continue for at least another term and Town have exercised an extra year's option to keep Nick Hegarty at Blundell Park.

Alan Buckley Told Mariners Net "The fact of the matter is that I have shook hands on an agreement with Ciaran Toner, for a new two-year contract. I'm delighted about that. Young Nick Hegarty, he was an option, that was quite straight forward to sort that one out. Lots of potential."

"I've shaken hands on a deal with Justin on a further year contract. These players have done very, very well since I joined the club. Justin has been magnificent. He's played a good captain's role. He's obviously not the most gifted of footballers but he's a fantastic individual who has done really well for us. He thoroughly deserves another year with us."

"Ciaran, I must confess, I wasn't really taken at first, but since he came into the team at Walsall he has never looked back. "He is a talented footballer, the sort of player I like. Comfortable on the ball, good passer, works very hard for us, and I like the combination that Ciaran and Tom Newey give us down the left. It was quite important to tie Ciaran up. I'm really pleased about that."

"Hegarty had a good run in the team soon after I joined the club. He was then left out of the team and because of the emergence of Ciaran, he hasn't been able to reclaim a first team spot. He's certainly one for the future."
