Mariners Sign Midfielder Ritchie Jones

GRIMSBY have signed former Manchester United and England Under-20 midfielder Ritchie Jones on non-contract terms. Jones, now 26, was youth team captain at Old Trafford before loans spells with Royal Antwerp, Colchester, Barnsley and Yeovil Town.

The 26-year-old signed for Hartlepool United in 2008, making 69 appearances. Spells with Oldham and Bradford City followed before he joined Rochdale, but Jones was released by the League Two club at the end of last season.

This is a good move as we are slowly filling up the spaces made when, earlier in the year, we released eight players: Ian Miller, Derek Niven, Bradley Wood, Frankie Artus, Greg Fleming, Simon Ford, Louie Soares and Greg Pearson.

Jones is the latest to join the Mariners following our signing of full back Alan Goodall on a one-month loan deal from League Two side Fleetwood Town (who was part of the Conference-topping squad, that aced the 2011-12 season!)
