The England Euro 2000 Debate

David Peasgood this weekend finds Bert and Fred reflecting on England v Argentina and our chances for Euro 2000.. Hear their views and YOU decide in our latest 'fishy' poll.

Fred and Bert

Euro 2000 Chances

BERT:
What did you think of England against the Argies then?

FRED:
Well 0-0 isn't bad but I don't think we'll get anywhere in Euro 2000. Keegan just hasn't got it if you ask me.

BERT:
Yeah but we made good chances. Heskey got some excellent crosses in and Shearer was unlucky not to score at least twice.

FRED:
Shearer is past it. We should be trying youngsters out for the future and saying goodbye to the oldies.

BERT:
That's daft. At that rate you never have a good team cos you're always building for a future and forgetting right now.

FRED:
Keegan attacks too much and doesn't show enough tactical awareness to defend when you need to. Look at him when he was at Newcastle.

BERT:
So how many goals did we let in against Argentina? Keegan's not daft. His strength is in raising the players morale and he handles the press better than most. He doesn't let them pick the side for him like the last one did.

FRED:
We still won't do any good in Euro 2000. Our only stars are Beckham who could get himself sent off anytime and… and… well that's about it really. Owen was good but is always injured, I don't know where Fowler is these days, Gazza is well past it and I don't see where any more stars are coming from. Shearer and Batty are getting old fast along with Seaman.

BERT:
And are all the other European teams full of kids then? Heskey looked good last week. Young Dyer is a name for the future. Owen will be back, and we need experience in the midfield. I think we've a better chance than for a long time of doing the business.

FRED:
Well I bet there are not many out there that agree.

Now for the vote...
