Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

21/05/2000 Rant

Scant Hope

Since Jack Lester departed we have a team without an exciting player to watch. We have small forwards who are easily knocked off the ball. Kevin Donovan shows the odd touch of class but they are very few and far between. His corners are all nearpost floaters all easily dealt with by the first defender. Left side attack is virtually non existent. Our freekicks are rarely any threat to the opposition, one wonders if any attacking training takes place. Our defence is shaky to say the least, a goalkeeper who won't come to claim a ball then being forced to make good saves because of his lack of confidence in the area.

There are some things which give some hope for the future, Butterfield is ever improving, Croudson is a good keeper just needing first team football, Ben Chapman also gave a good account of himself when called upon. Adam Buckley should be disposed of now to avoid a considerable weakness down the left side of the team, a move to Scunthorpe perhaps?

And finally what of the big talk from the new "gang" where are the improvements? Where is the "considerable financial commitment" What are they doing? With the team as it stands, the negative and boring tactics adopted by the manager, all that can happen is relegation to the new stadium. "Second division park" It is now time for the board to "put up or shut up and get out" and why does "Cuddly Dudley" stay off the board, is he not man enough to shoulder the massive task to get Grimsby Town Football Club, back from what seems enevitable relegation next season. And I think it would be in the best interests of all if the Manager made a public apology for his crude gestures and verbal attacks on the "loyal" fans. "What do they know about football" he hysterically shrieks, at the moment many wonder if he has forgotten many things about football.
