Rant of the Week

sunday 20th august

Lets face it...........

Lets face it the squad isn't up to it, the manager is totally devoid of ideas and the much publicised new board is no better and may well be worse than its predecessor.

Division 2 if not 3 or even the Conference looms and the reasons are well summed up by two letters in last nights GET on-line the authors of which I have already forgotten (sorry guys but the letters were great and so relevant)

1) where has the fat bloke Ashcroft transfer cash gone and more importantly how much did we get ? There are many things which dont add up and much which we havent been told. What severance payment did fat Peggy finally negotiate ? How much did we eventually settle for from Wigan given that their figure and ours was supposed to be so different then suddenly the porky one was gone....... And most important of all where is the money (however little it may be) is it available for a new signing (please God let it be a striker) or has the new board (who have shown no inclination to do anything different to their much slagged-off predecessors but manage to blame them at every available opportunity) just put it into the overdrawn account ?

2)And what of attendances ? Only 4000 home fans at the opening game on a beautiful August Saturday, a surprise ? I think not. There is no incentive to watch the Town outside the 2500 or so fanatics who hold season tickets and would (will) even watch when we are in the conference in 2002/3. Forget all the hype about G Coates and the new ground, we couldnt fill more than one stand anyway, however good the food and the piss house, its not the BP facilities keeping them away. The current team, manager and atmosphere around the club will attract no one other than the big away followings from Blackburn, Bolton, Barnsley, Wednesday et al. New players to grasp the interest a la Ivano, Clive etc etc are the way the turnstiles are going to turn until we are challenging for a Div 3 playoff spot - bottom 6 Div 1 holds no interest - its a proven fact top 6 lower league is more attractive to the 'fans', and the desperate situation behind the scenes at BP at the moment does not help not to mention AB steering the ship blindly but deliberately towards the rocks

May 3rd 1969 home to Brentford attendance 1833 - any bets on when it will be beaten ?
