Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

New Start?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 06/09/2000

The performance by the Mariners last night at Carlisle may herald a new beginning to the season, albeit a few games late, but the signs are there that the team is finally taking charge and getting involved.

Carlisle may not be the toughest opponents we will meet but the players responded strongly to the Carlisle goal, scoring the equalizer and controlling the game for the whole of the second half. This win on aggregate is a bonus to Town as it gets us into the next round. That is more important than the result itself. Every extra game we play this season, is extra money coming into the club and with Lennie Lawrence looking to rebuild in certain area's of the team, it will be a major factor in the funds he is given to spend. The good news in this game was that Livvo and Allen played well together and it was Livvo's nod down to Allen that produced the goal. This coupled with the fact that Handyside played without any reaction from his injuries is very good news indeed. The game against Gillingham may well prove to be the real test to the team and the new system. There is, as yet, no further news on loan players but according to reports Lennie is very busy in that area and we may see a result soon. Reports of Grimsby seeking loan of Birmingham city striker Adebole have not been confirmed.
