Dyer Latest

Town manager Lennie Lawrence today confirmed his interest in Barnsley striker Bruce Dyer saying Dyer had "every attribute he was looking for". Lawrence is looking initially to sign Dyer for a loan period with a view to a possible purchase later in the season.

Lawrence faces stiff competition to sign the 25-year-old front man. with several other clubs, including Gillingham and Bristol City in the frame. One carrot that the Mariners can dangle in front of Dyer to attract his services is the near certainty of first team football. With Town's dismal scoring record and only three senior strikers already in Grimsby's squad, Dyer's place in the first team would be virtually assured. Meanwhile the two foreign trialists we brought you the details of last week arrived in Grimsby today. The pair will boost the number at the club's training sessions, if not yet the actual first team. Lennie Lawrence will spend at least a week looking at German forward Sascha Lenhart and Spanish defender Moises Goya. The pair join New Zealand international goalkeeper Jason Batty, currently on a three-month trial with the Mariners. The three foreign trialists are the first overseas players to feature at Blundell Park since the days of Ivano Bonetti and his Italian pals. Despite having limited funds at his disposal, Lawrence is trying his hardest both within the UK and internationally to bring in new faces, and the results are slowly starting to show.
