Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Nielsen Hope/Reserves

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 20/12/2000

Lennie Lawrence is still hopeful that he can secure the signature of David Nielsen in spite of the passing of the Monday deadline that he set last week. It now seems that any deal bringing the Dane to Blundell Park will not be completed before Christmas.

Lawrence told the Grimsby Evening Telegraph: "As far as I'm concerned, I've had slight informal encouragement that there might be some movement at the other end.

"I have heard circumstances have altered slightly and sufficiently enough for me to keep the door open.

"The boy's playing well and I'm still hopeful of doing the deal."

In other news, Paul Raven is set to return to action this afternoon as the Mariners reserves take on Hartlepool United in an Avon Insurance Cup clash at Victoria Park. Argentinian striker Franco Vottola is also expected to be involved in the fixture.

Other members of the squad include Spurs loanee Neil Lacey, and Hull City trialists Chris Bolder and Graham Hockless.

Grimsby Town: Croudson, Batty, Chapman, Bloomer, Lacey, Raven, A Smith, D Smith, Ward, Buckley, Rowan, Vottola, Bolder, Hockless, Pounder, White, Moran, Butterwood, Smithson.
