Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Pete Fancies It

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 16/01/2001

Grimsby defender Peter Handyside has been looking ahead to tonight's FA Cup 3rd Round Replay against Wycombe. The Scottish stopper "fancies his chances" of dispatching the Chairboys, clearing the way for a clash with Wolves in the next round.

Handyside vowed that the players would be going all-out to set the record straight after a shabby performance against Crewe on Saturday:

"We've got to put some wrong's right and take something positive from tonight's game," he told MarinersNet.

"You've got to fancy your chances at home, but we know with their manager and the way they play that they're a battling side."

The Dumfries-born former trainee may be in line for a recall to the starting lineup this evening, with it now seeming more and more likely that manager Lennie Lawrence will revert to a 3-5-2 formation.

The winners of tonight's clash will be rewarded with a home tie against Wolves in the FA Cup 4th Round, although Handyside is firmly focused on tonight's encounter:

"We'll worry about Wolves if and when we get through - for the moment it's that old cliché; we'll take it a game at a time."

Meanwhile, Lawrence believes that tonight's match could prove to be a classic, attacking cup-tie, saying:

"Whoever was representing them at our match on Saturday will no doubt be advising them to play three up front and have a right go at us.

"We must make sure we deal with it better than we did against Crewe.

"There will be changes to the team - I'm not saying where they will be but there will be 3 or 4 changes in different areas."

Tonight's game is a 7.45pm kickoff - normal ticket prices apply.
